Much sewing and running around
Dec. 30th, 2006 09:34 amLong time no post. Here's the short version:
My B-day had its ups and downs. People on the road were driving like idiots, and a bunch of drinking teenagers poured out of a truck at the barn just as I started to ride. Add to that a not very good ride (my fault, not Brandee's). But then I got to see maestrateresa and her puppies, and puppy time is always good. Then it was off to Marguerite's where misagillian made dinner and helblonde made me a non-wheat carrot cake with my arms in lemon curd frosting. :-) I got a new bridle, too, which was a super nice gift.
Saturday I got to meet ornerie! :-) She got to meet Brandee, then we met up with misagillian and leotulf and his daughter and maestrateresa at Hobees for breakfast. Then it was off to Dickens Faire and a good time was had by all. I decided that my time was worth money so I went ahead and ordered a Victorian corset from Dark Garden. Victorian is not my specialty, so I don't have a bunch of personal pride in making *everything* myself. Once I have the corset I'm much more likely to finish my Victorian outfit. Also picked up a mask for 12th Night.
And I want to go on record as saying that onerie is a Very Cool And Right Thinking Individual (TM), and I'm very much looking forward to hanging out with her more. :-)
Xmas eve day I went to the barn and then headed up to SF to spend the holiday with Juana and Ivar. Got to hang some with madbaker and his wife as well. Had a nice quiet Xmas and, among other things, got a beautiful piece of pink and gold silk brocade that I think is going to turn into a florintine doublet. Much handwork happened (more below).
On Boxing Day we headed out to Green Apple Books for their big sale. Very crowded, but good deals. Picked up a couple of things, including a huge art book on the Pitti and Uffizi paintings.
The rest of the week has been taken up with running around and sewing. One day was spent giving Owen's mom a turn out, and I've been heading down to the barn. There is some sewing machine-related news, but I'll save that for another post.
Two negative things/issues are making me unhappy right now. First, I may not be able to finish my 12th Night dress in time. The sleeves are taking *alot* of time, most of it handwork. Second, I ran out of aglets. I have a package on its way with more matching aglets coming from Hedgehog Handworks, but when I went to check the tracking number (USPS Priority Mail) it hadn't gotten past the "it was sent from the shipper on Dec. 28" stage. If it doesn't come today it won't come until Wednesday (Mon. is the 1st, and Tues is now a federal holiday in honor of Gerald Ford's death). Now, I have gold aglets from Fire Mountain Gems that are gold and the same size but they don't match. I can't finish the sleeves until all the aglets are on, and once the sleeves are finished there is no changing the aglets without completely re-doing the sleeves. Even with the aglets I'm not sure I could finish in time, given work and Brandee. I'll see what happens today and tomorrow -- I've decided to skip the New Year's party because that day Brandee is getting a training ride so I can just spend an entire day at home sewing.
Second, I can't find my Cross of Toulouse necklace. I last had it at the party at madbaker and neighbors. I checked Juana's house and couldn't find it, and I can't find it here at home. :-(
Obviously, my lesson this year is supposed to be "Don't get too attached to material things". :-/
Oh, and the Maske at 12th Night does not seem to be coming together. I feel really guilty about this.
