Have you ever watched really young puppies? They mostly sleep. Every once in a while they wake up and scootch around a little bit, and then they fall back asleep. This is what I've been like for the last couple of days. Yesterday I was able to stay awake and out of bed more, but when I tried to read my brain wasn't up to it. Today my brain feels like it may be capable of some work. I'm still at home, though.

Like I said I was unable to do any serious reading yesterday. Since I *could* be out of bed, and I hate wasting time, I was able to to a bit of sewing work. Nothing that I could ruin, mind you. I was able to cut out and baste together some drill for a bodice fitting for the 12th Night dress, and was able to put together draft 2 of my victorian corset for another fitting. Since I now hove friends to help fit I'm going to wait until I can avail myself of their services and not try to fit myself. Unfortuantely I'm not going to be at sewing tonight.

I now have fabric for a bunch of outfits. Thanks to g0atface I'm covered for tourney-wear, so I can just focus on the stuff I enjoy sewing: foofy impractical 16th C stuff! OK, that's not entirely true, because one of the projects is a plum/raison wool 'petticote' (using the Moda terminalogy) which can be worn under my green wool ropa/coat. This will be the I'll Never Be Cold Again outfit, so it would be good to have it done for March Crown. So, projects include:
-- 12th Night Dress (modeled on the dress semy_of_pearls uses as an icon
-- Dicken's Faire Dress (blue taffeta pleat-front 1849 dress. Chemise and drawers done, corset in progress)
-- Black/gold brocade overgown with gold silk underdress, inspired by Fig 39 in Moda a Firenze.
-- Pink outfit from fabric bought this weekend. Another petticote with fitted overgown, exact look TBD.
-- Wool 'petticote' described above
-- boy clothes that have been languishing for a couple of years now.
-- a couple of 12th C tunics (one of which would be cold weather wear)
-- replacement simple smock for the one that was stolen
-- new high-necked chemise with washable ruffs, since my old one is starting to get worn out.

Then there is getting back to making Ivar a Victorian outfit so I can get more experiance tailoring. I need to be helping several people with thier 12th Night outfits as well. And I play in my head with stuffing several people I know in outfits that they just *need* to be wearing, but that they will never make for themselves. So many outfits, so little time...

Oh, and of course there is also getting my pavillion painted and getting the poles done. Deadline for that is now Beltane, 'cause I'm just assuming that March Crown weather will be bad and that I'll get a room.

On the riding front, nothing. I rode Monday and haven't been out of my house since. Brandee's getting a training ride today, so that's something.

Pop Culture: When I bought Rome it came with a sampler of other HBO shows, including the first episode of Deadwood. I watched it for the first time yesterday. Yup, that's a good series, and now I want to see the rest of it. And I confess that the Calamity Jane character reminded me very much of a certain old Westermarker who will remain unnamed but has the first initial of "B". ;-) Other than that this house has been having a Netflix-provided CSI marathon. I'm addicted! We are halfway though season 4 now.

OK, *must* get some work done today.

The green gown? The portrait hangs in the Museum in San Diego. I want to say Balboa Park. I know that the museum is near the San Diego Zoo.

The gown is wonderful and you will look amazing in it.

Hope you feel better! I apparently don't have your home phone programmed, btw. I let Brandee out last evening and was fairly successful. I got her to trot a fair amount and canter once, but I don't have the control thing down by any means, as she turned around a couple of times when I didn't ask her to. But she got a bit of exercise (as did I, as the big arena takes more for me to keep up with her. :) ).

Deadwood is brilliant. A western series about the transition of a town and its inhabitants from anarchy to civilization? AND a broad spectrum of female characters? AND Ian McShane? Who could beat that? Also, the copious profanity makes me feel all safe and comfy (my Dad cussed like that, and I'm free speech fanatic).

Feel better, toots!
