Got back a little while ago from Mists Coronet, which I daytripped. Perfect weather, lovely site that was only a bit more than an hour away. Doesn't get much better :-) . Spent the day smoozing and re-establish contacts with SCA friends, many of whom I don't see anywhere else. I feel like I've been really AWOL lately with regards to the SCA, except where there are horses involved.

Although this may sound silly, this was a first for me in that this is the first time I have driven to an SCA event *by myself*. Funny thing, the LBK is the only one who noticed (or at least said anything). And I got to show off my Xmas-present chair that A. gave me (Donna has a matching one--Toscano had a special...)

Several nice things happened. Leah (the bard) was made a court baroness. She's nice--I know her from our riding at Garrods. Oh, and she explained her whole radish-thing to me which took some time. Donna/Juana presented her with a carved watermelon radish, which looked really cool. Who knew radishes had such potential? And His Highness was gracious enough to show off his new leather pants to us assembled ladies. I don't think we've ever had such accomadating royalty before ;-) .

I gotta admit, though, that it upset my sense of cosmic balance that Leotulf made finals again and didn't win. I don't have an eye for fighting (nor much interest, to be honest), but jeeze, who could not feel for the guy? This is not to say anything negative about the person who won, who I've never seen before (no surprize, given how little contact I have with the fighting-end of the SCA). But the fighters I did talk to all said they had good fights and had a good time, which is all that matters.

Leah was made a Court Baroness? Cool. She's a nice person, have always liked her, and it's great to see her coming into her own. For the longest time she was in Ivone's shadow (she was a lot more shy and wasn't really very sure of herself -- no blame to Ivone here but between the two Ivone was more outgoing for a long time), and it's great to see that she's gotten enough confidence in her own abilities to become Bard of the West, and just be out there more.

As to Leohtulf, as long as he's enjoying the experience (and he and I talk about it a lot) that's the most important thing. He and I had a quick IM chat last night (he was understandably exhausted and was heading off to bed) and he was able to laugh a bit. When I asked how he did, he said he didn't win, but I'd have to help him pick out a bridesmaid's dress ... (a reference to coming in second -- "always a bridesmaid, never a bride"). But yeah, it's gotta be frustrating, I think this is the fourth time he's made it to the finals, and he has yet to win. The other fighter was Merlin (okay, the name he was knighted under was Titus, but since he's never submitted the name change ... <g>).

We had planned on going, but since the spousal unit's flight came in at 11pm (rather than noonish as planned), she was fried, and by the time I got home I was fried, and ...

It was really good to see you! And the tea went pretty well! No big hassles, everybody ate and was merry, and I didn't have a nervous breakdown or anything. :->

And I've driven so many places with you that it didn't occur to me that it was your first time by yourself! Go you!!! :->
