Good day to sew
Today it is all overcast and looks like rain. Good sewing day. Good thing, because I've never attempted to make anything so major so quickly before.

nightbocce and her friend Elizabeth draped me for the bodice to both my English fur-shawl collar overgown and my Moroni Lady in Rose overgown. Today my goal is to make significant progress on the English overgown. I'm not going to bone it and that should cut down on construction time. (I didn't bone my brown doublet, and that fits fine, and the structural support for this outfit will come from the boned kirtle g0atface is making me.)
night_bocce was strongly against my lining my skirt with fur, but the look on my face apparently was enough to convince even her that that is what I really wanted. Like I said before, I'll do a partial lining. And I'll keep the hem of this overgown a bit short in hopes that that will mitigate the danger of the hem getting wet and dragging if it rains.
OK, off to sew now! But first, that SCA Meme:
1. What is your SCA Name? Genevieve de Vendome
2. What time and where do you portray? 16th Century European -- I bounce between Italy and France and England. And I tend to dress in the 1540-1590 timeframe.
3. In plain English describe your device. Or, a Cross of Toulous gules. I.e. a gold background with a red Cross of Toulous. If you know me you know how much I love my device. :-)
4. How long have you been in the SCA? I joined in 1977, but I was inactive for much of the 1990s.
5. Do you have any special titles you have earned? I'm a Mistress of the Laurel and a Viscountess and a Court Baroness. And I'm the Exhalted Squid until such time as someone rescends that. ;-)
6. What kingdom and local group do you belong to? Kingdom of the West, Principality of the Mists. I live in Esfenn, but I'm not active on that local of a level.
7. Do you have preferred colors for your SCA Persona? Whatever looks good. If you know my you know I'm drawn to red and pink and purple and gold, however.
8. What is your war that you look forward to going to every year? Never been to a big war before. This Estrella will be a first for me.
9. Do you hold any offices? No.
10. Favorite memory from an event? Hmm, a lot of things blur together. I loved being in the old Westermark plays and have fond memories of that (as do, apparently, a lot of other people. Who knew 28 years ago that erotic mooing would make such a big impression?) More recently I loved when that my 16th C Salon in 2006 the Treblemakers started singing and I saw all the people and how well everything had come together and I just burst into tears. :-)
11. Are you a fighter? Moi? You must be joking, darling. Rohan florist, remember? ;-)
12. Are you crafty (making things)? I can sew.
13. Do you teach classes at events? Hm, well I have occasionally taught at A&S. But I think I'm better one on one at my house.
14. Do you play instruments at events? I picked up a recorder several years ago, but once I took up horses that fell by the wayside.
15. Do you dance at events? But of course, darling! What a silly question. ;-)
16. Do you feel that there is enough flirting and chivalrous behavior in the SCA? There is alway room for more. As we've grown as a group we've become more insular in our social groups, so I don't think you see the random acts of kindness and chivaly that you used to. But I still can't think of a time when I've had to carry my own chair all the way to a Laurel meeting.
17. Are you a "Black Hat" or a "White Hat"? What the hell kinda question is this? Does this question have meaning somewhere in the Known World?
18. What is one of the reasons you've remained in the SCA? The people. And it's a great excuse to make the costumes I love and to play at being a 16th C courtier.
19. What peerage(s) do you aspire to? Been there done that. It is a peaceful thing to know one is *done*. :-)
20. Who was Crown when you joined the SCA? I was so clueless I'm not sure, but it might have been Paul and Carol of Bellatrix.
21. If you are a Peer, who was the Crown that elevated you? Steven of Beckingham and Sariya (now Sofie -- akanight_bocce).
22. Have you lived in more than 1 kingdom and which ones? I've only lived in the West and the Principality of the Mists.
23. Have you helped found a group? I was one of the original Westermarkers. Just me and Leon active these days.
24. Have you had any house affiliations? Depends on how you define it. I typically camp with the Company of St. Teresa, but that is a camping group and definately not a household. I have old ties to House Bellatrix and they are always most welcoming to me. And now I know I'm welcome with House Wulfsheim. But I'm not a memeber of any household. I joke I'm like a cat who prowls around and visits those who feed me. ;-)
