Quick Weekend Report
Wow. The Morro Bay area is beautiful. No wonder people live in Tarnmists!
Friday. Crappy work day. Had to pack the car for the weekend then ride. Then had to run and get a going-away card, horse treats and Sees Chocolate for my contribution to Deb's gift basket (I'd already gotten her a bottle of Wild Horse Pinot :-) ). I forgot to put one of my packed bags in the car, which I was able to work around, but it was still inconvienent, and required a quick trip to Mervynns. Do some work, then head off to Deb's going away marguerita drink-fest. Had a fun time at Deb's party (we will miss her!)
Then Marguerite and Brian and I headed off for a late showing of Harry Potter 4. I liked it. I thought the edit choices were interesting. And I got the impression that it was a transition piece between kid's/family film and action movie, which I thought appropriate given the books to come and the character's aging. I thought Fleur came off way wimpier than the book, but it's been a while since I've read it. Marguerite was pretty ticked at the Fleur presentation, though.
Saturday Marguerite and I headed off to Hobbee's for breakfast and made very silly Ball invitation forgeries. She'd saved her wedding RSVP cards and glued them shut so we'd have pretty cards. Used red sharpies and wrote a French text Cyn wrote up.
Driving to Paso Robles only took 2.5 hours, so no more complaining about Tarnmist being "too far". Heck, I drive north that far, why not south? M and I got a nosh in downtown Paso Robles and strolled around the town square--very cute! Now I want to go back to Heast Castle and just play tourist.
Very pleasant Feast. Simple dishes with *lots* of meat. Very nice friendly people; one of those events where you can introduce yourself to everyone there (and pass out silly forgeries!) :-) . Happily got to see fellow northerners Gillian and Alessandro and Collett, as well as Leon and hi wife. Got lobbied by Leon to come down more often to teach et. al. I could see that--nice people--reminds me of early SCA in terms of material culture--they could probably benefit from some up-close-and-personal-classes and examples. The current West Bard lives there and performed, and she's very good. Alessandro performed as well, which was also good. Marguerite led some dancing, but dancing kept getting interrtuped by food. Beautiful place, not anymore distant than some parts of Cynagua, really. And the feast was in a winery, and the winery kept thier tasting room open for us. Came home with 2 bottles of wine. Poor M was fighting the Ick that is going around, so we left at about 10:30.
Sunday we drove another 30 min south to Montana de Oro State Park to check out the site for the April EQ event. Site will be abysmal if it rains, but the park was really pretty. I haven't seen the ocean in what seems like forever, and the cliff views were beautifal. Went to the ranger's station and Ellen, Kristin, and Marguerite had to calm the fears of the ranger about what we wanted to do. Along with other things, the ranger is afraid we will disturb the snowy plover nests. He seemed to think we wanted to put on a Ren Faire. Sigh. (However, this event may be OBE, if the West puts on a week-long 40 yr thingee, which the LBK tells me was discussed at the latest Kingdom Officer's meeting).
Marguerite and I tried to get back in time to wash Brandee, but it got dark too early. Brandee needs to get washed before being clipped, and she's *got* to get clipped this week. So I'll be meeting M at the barn at lunch today for Brandee Bath Time. It will be a late work night, tonight.
Looking forward to the Thanksgiving Holiday!
